National Alliance for Human Rights and Social Justice-Nepal (Human Rights Alliance) is a coaliation of Nepali non governmental human rights organizations dedicated to a cause of freedom, human rights, social justice, and peace in Nepal. It was established in 1996 in the initiation of some leading human rights NGOs in order for bring together like-minded human rights organizations to build nationwide human rights movement conducive for all to realize their basic rights. It envisages a world where people would assert and enjoy all human rights, and thereby experience peace and prosperity.
Human Rights Alliance consolidates and coordinates human rights and social justice movement and has actively involved in lobbying for the protection of it. It advocates for a society that is free of violence, torture, exploitation, oppression, and injustice. It is a national level umbrella body of human rights NGOs, run by the democratically elected representatives.
Human Rights Alliance has over 1000 member organizations affiliated to it throughout the nation. It has 5 regional branches and 68 district committees through which it coordinates and mobilizes its member organizations in carrying out its programs effectively and efficiently.
Misson
To bring together like- minded human rights organizations for building broader nationwide human rights movement conducive for all to realize all rights including social, cultural, economical, civil and political rights.
Vision
Alliance-Nepal envisages a world where people would assert and enjoy all human rights, and thereby experience peace and prosperity. It also advocates the societies free of violence, torture, exploitation, oppression and injustice.
Objectives
a) Sensitize, advocate, and launch programs for the protection, promotion, and enjoyment of human rights and social justice in a fearless environment.
b) Consolidate human rights and social justice movement at the grass-root levels through social mobilization.
c) Monitor and evaluate the observance of all human right instruments ratified by Nepal.
d) Promote and/or create academic institutions for human rights and development studies.
e) Work towards the institutional development of a social justice system that respects human rights in all aspects of development, and distribution of different kinds of resources among all oppressed and deprived class, castes, beck warded areas, ethnic groups, religious minorities, and other socio-cultural groups.
Major Programs
1) Conduct dialogue on human rights and social justice with National Human Rights Commission, parliamentary committees and other institutions dealing with issues of human rights and social justice.
2) Monitor the observance of international human rights instruments ratified by the state, and prepare alternative reports as per need.
3) Inform and sensitize people and professionals by publishing and disseminating the acts, laws, international declarations and treaties defining rights of the people, specifically those of the indigenous, vulnerable and marginalized communities, and obligations of the state towards the people.
4) Launch a various programmes and campaigns, organize public rallies, seminars, workshops, assemblies, training and counseling to increase capacity of the people to participate and act in all affairs related to human rights and social justice.
5) Conduct research and case studies and facts finding mission on human rights violations and recommend measures for redresses.
6) Monitor for free and fair elections and ensure a person’s democratic right to vote in a fearless atmosphere. |
